USS Gerald R. Ford warship to reach Middle East within week, official says

The USS Gerald R. Ford will take at least a week to reach the Middle East, an official told Reuters on Friday.
The last time two US aircraft carriers were deployed to the region was when the United States bombed Iran last year.
The Gerald R. Ford, the newest and largest carrier in the US fleet, has been operating in the Caribbean with its escort ships and earlier took part in operations near Venezuela.

Exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi attended the Munich Security Conference after officials of the Islamic Republic were not invited to the annual gathering.
Pahlavi told Iran International he would meet several US senators on the sidelines of the conference and hold a press conference on February 14. He described the February 14 call as highly significant.

Iran will respond strongly to any move against it, the secretary of Iran’s Defense Council told Al Jazeera, saying the country’s missile systems are a red line and not open to negotiation.
“Our missile systems are part of our red lines and are not negotiable,” Ali Shamkhani said, adding that Israel cannot act without direct backing from Washington.
“We will respond to any adventurism against Iran in a strong, decisive and appropriate manner.”
Iran’s military readiness, he said is high and added that the cost of any miscalculation would be significant.
A group of Iranians living in Hamburg set up a tent outside the Islamic Republic’s consulate to display images of those killed in January protests, aiming to keep their memory alive and draw attention to Iran’s human rights record.
Organizers said the exhibition seeks to remind the public of the victims and highlight ongoing concerns about rights violations in Iran.

A group of Iranian-Australian citizens has submitted a petition to Australia’s parliament calling for the government to withdraw recognition of the Islamic Republic as the legitimate representative of the Iranian people.
The petition argues that a large majority of Iranians reject the Islamic Republic as their lawful representative and instead support the leadership of exiled Prince Reza Pahlavi for a transition to a secular democracy that preserves Iran’s territorial integrity and upholds the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Around 13,000 people had signed the petition at the time of publication.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s name has been removed from the updated list of speakers at the UN Human Rights Council session on February 23.
The removal followed an online campaign that urged the UN to withdraw his invitation and called on other delegations to walk out if Araghchi or any other Iranian representative took the floor.
