Iraq says it backs Oman-hosted Iran-US negotiations

Feb 5, 2026, 15:22 GMT+0

Iraq’s foreign minister said on Thursday that Baghdad supports ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States being held in Oman, warning that the region is in a sensitive period and must be kept out of war.

“The region is going through a sensitive period, and keeping it out of the throes of war is a duty for all countries, especially neighboring and (Persian) Gulf states,” Fuad Hussein said at a joint press conference in Baghdad with his French counterpart, according to a statement by Iraq’s foreign ministry.
