Iran was warned of possible Israeli strike by ally, official tells Reuters

Jun 12, 2025, 08:57 GMT+1

A regional ally had informed Tehran of a potential Israeli military strike, a senior official of the Islamic Republic told Reuters on Thursday, but stressed that Iran would not abandon its right to uranium enrichment despite mounting tensions.

“The tensions are intended to influence Tehran to change its position about its nuclear rights,” the official said.

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that American personnel were being withdrawn from the Middle East due to growing risks in what he called a “dangerous place,” reaffirming that Washington will not permit Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon.

Tehran and Washington are set to resume nuclear talks in Muscat, Oman Sunday.

Referring to the country’s long history and cultural legacy, he said, “For 47 years, they’ve failed to make us surrender—and they still won’t.”

Iran must never gain nuclear capability, Witkoff says

Jun 12, 2025, 07:18 GMT+1

Iran must be permanently denied any nuclear or missile capability, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said Wednesday, calling it an “existential threat” to Israel, the United States, and the Persian Gulf region.

Witkoff, who was speaking at a United Hatzalah gala in New York, confirmed he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier that day and praised President Donald Trump’s support for Israel.

“We must stand resolute and united against this danger and ensure that Iran never obtains the means to achieve its deadly ambitions no matter what the cost,” he said.
