Israel defense minister highlights US-Israel cooperation on Middle East security

An Iranian media figure, Amir Sayyah on Saturday appeared to question messaging around Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the United States and internal decision-making in remarks shown in a video published on X.

In the video, Sayyah described Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei as “courageous like his father” and praised Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf for his record, but suggested that some members of the Supreme National Security Council are “not fighters” and may be inclined to “concede right away,” adding that policy decisions should take into account both “what we know and what we do not know.”

Iran’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alireza Enayati on Saturday appeared to push back on interpretations that the Saudi delegation’s presence at the funeral of slain Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, along with the verse chosen by Iran for the ceremony, carried a coded message of passive-aggressive tension between the two sides.

Enayati said in a post on X the moment “speaks for itself” and described relations between Tehran and Riyadh as “intimate and enduring,” rooted in “brotherhood and friendship.”

Iranian lawmaker Mahmoud Nabavian called for vengeance in a post on X on Saturday, saying Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei "does not need mourners—he needs avengers," while referring to a figure he said had been "martyred along with his family."

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty called for maintaining momentum to fulfill the terms of the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic, Al Jazeera reported Saturday.

Abdelatty said the effort was needed to consolidate de-escalation between the two sides and ensure regional security and stability.

He made the remarks during a meeting with the EU’s commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, in Cairo.

Iranian state media on Saturday published a message from Rear Admiral Ali Azmaei that identified him as commander of the IRGC Navy, marking the first public indication that he has replaced Alireza Tangsiri, who was killed during the war in March.

No formal appointment decree has been published for Azmaei, whose predecessor was killed in an attack on Bandar Abbas on March 26.
