French defense minister rejects any transit fees in Strait of Hormuz
French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin on Saturday rejected the idea of imposing transit fees on the Strait of Hormuz, adding that freedom of navigation in the key waterway must be preserved, according to remarks reported by QNA.
"France’s position on any potential US-Iran arrangement involving the strait is clear; any such fees would set an unacceptable precedent," Vautrin said. "Ensuring uninterrupted passage through Hormuz is essential for the global economy and international trade."
