Spain to reopen embassy in Tehran, minister says

Apr 9, 2026, 08:18 GMT+1

Spain will reopen its embassy in Tehran, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said on Thursday, presenting the move as part of efforts to help achieve peace in the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Albares said he had instructed Spain’s ambassador to return to Tehran, resume his post and reopen the embassy so Spain could take part in the push for peace “from every possible quarter, including from the Iranian capital itself.”
