Iran wanted Oman venue for US talks to keep focus on nuclear issue - Reuters

Iran decided to move planned talks with the United States from Istanbul to Oman because it wanted the discussions to be a continuation of earlier negotiations held there over its nuclear program, a regional official told Reuters on Wednesday.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Tehran has insisted from the outset that the talks be limited strictly to its nuclear program, while Washington has sought to place other issues on the agenda as well.

The official added that Iran was aware during the planning process that regional countries had been invited to take part in the talks in Istanbul.
