Iran intercepting targets over Tehran - Mehr News

Jun 18, 2025, 18:04 GMT+1

Iran’s air defense system is currently “intercepting hostile targets” over Tehran, the semi-official Mehr News Agency said Wednesday.

Shortly after, Iran’s state-run IRIB network published an evacuation warning in Hebrew for residents of the Israeli city of Haifa.

The warning, shared as a graphic, marked an unspecified area as a “high-risk zone” and urged people to leave immediately.

“Your presence in this area endangers your lives,” it read. The message comes amid ongoing missile exchanges between Iran and Israel.

The USS Ford Carrier Strike Group is set to deploy to Europe next week and is expected to move into the eastern Mediterranean near Israel, CNN reported Wednesday, citing US officials.

It would become the third US carrier positioned close to the Israel-Iran conflict.

While the Ford’s deployment was planned in advance, its movement reflects heightened military posture.

Another carrier is also en route to the region, possibly to join or relieve the USS Carl Vinson.

US carriers can launch airstrikes, intercept missiles, and operate as forward platforms for power projection in crises.
