Iran bars protest detainees from annual pardons, judiciary chief says
Iran’s judiciary chief on Sunday said detained protesters would be excluded from annual pardons issued to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution, when authorities traditionally grant sentence reductions or releases to selected prisoners.
“I have instructed that the names of all convicts in any way connected to security issues be removed from the list of pardons,” Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said, adding that “defendants and convicts” tied to the recent protests would also not be included in pardons planned for Feb. 11.
