"The attack is ongoing. Dozens of additional missiles were launched toward the State of Israel," the military said in a statement.
Addressing Israeli residents, it added: "The explosions you are hearing are from interceptions or fallen projectiles."
"The Aerial Defense Array is currently identifying and intercepting launches," it said.
Only 5-7 missiles from an Iranian missile salvo have fallen, a source close to the Israeli government told Iran International.
There was no indication of casualties and one person was slightly injured by shrapnel, the source added.
Iran's nuclear agency spokesman says the country's nuclear facilities "have not suffered serious damage."
He confirms impact and some damage on sites in Natanz and Fordow, asserting that a some equipment and materials had already been relocated.
Iran fired around 200 missiles at Israel, a source close to the Israeli government told Iran International, most of which targeted the central region.
The heads of a prominent advocacy group dedicated to barring Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon praised Israel's attacks on Iran.
"Today, we stand with Israel and the people of Iran. Israel should never again face the threat of nuclear annihilation at the hands of this murderous regime," United Against Nuclear Iran heads Governor Jeb Bush and Mark Wallace said in a joint statement.
