Canada on Wednesday rejected Iran’s decision to designate the Royal Canadian Navy as a terrorist organization, calling the move baseless and politically motivated and reaffirming its sanctions and human rights pressure on Tehran.

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a Canada-sponsored resolution condemning Iran's human rights violations for the 23rd consecutive year.

Member of the Canadian Parliament Garnett Genuis told Iran International the government failed to protect people forced into conscription by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) when it listed the group a terrorist organization last year.

Canada told Iran International on Thursday it does not automatically reject Iranian men’s permanent residency applications solely for compulsory IRGC service, after a conscript said he was ruled inadmissible for his involuntary service.

A Canadian move to deport a former Iranian roads official working as an Uber driver over his previous work has been rejected an immigration review body for his lack of seniority in Tehran's ruling apparatus.

More than a decade after Canada cut diplomatic ties with Iran, tensions remain high as calls to reopen embassies are met with deep resistance from Iranian Canadians who fear the Islamic Republic's influence and repression on Canadian soil.
