More than 123,000 people, including 6,000 Americans, have fled Afghanistan safely, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said. Blinken called the evacuation "a large-scale military, diplomatic and humanitarian operation and one of the toughest in US history."

Joe Biden said in a statement that "in the opinion of all US field commanders, ending the military presence in Afghanistan is the best possible way to protect the lives of US troops and ensure the safe evacuation of civilians in the coming weeks and months."

Hamed Ismailion, spokesman for the Association of the Families of the Victims of the Ukrainian Plane, said: "The names of those involved in the downing of the PAS-752 flight have been communicated to the families who have complained by the Tehran Military Prosecutor's Office and the Association will announce its response soon."

Frank Mackenzie, commander of US Central Command, Centcom, says 2,000 ISIS fighters are currently active in Afghanistan.
